Article about Sri Janaky Matha published in arunachala.org in the year 2006

The following article, which describes the life of a unique devotee of Bhagavan Ramana, was written by Darlene Delisi Karamanos, using Dr. G. Swaminathan's Biography of Guru Devi Sri Janaky Matha for source material. July 27th 2006 was Janaky Matha's one hundredth birth anniversary.

Sri Janaky Matha was a wife, mother of seven children, community volunteer, devotee of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi and an enlightened soul. Her amazing life of inner visions, spiritual yearning, surrender and bhakti inspires all to pursue the spiritual ideal, delve into the Supreme Self and not waste even a minute in the process.

Born on July 27, 1906, the child Janaky exhibited unusual detachment. She accepted all things with a joyous heart. Janaky was full of devotion to the local deities, Sri Viswanatha and Visalakshi, and as she grew in years, Janaky desired to be like Sita, the ever-faithful, pure and holy wife of Sri Ram..

 Navarathri celebrations in the Ashram

Navarathri celebrations glorifying the divine Mother is the highlight of Janaky Matha Ashram functions. They were performed in a grand scale at the ashram this year between September20th and 30th 2017. Large number of devotees attended all through the ten days and received Mathaji’s blessings.

Daily for each of the Navarathri days the pooja began with Sankalpam, Gadasthapanam, special Abhishekam followed by Laksharchanai.

At noon prasadam was distributed to devotees and poor people. Every night Annadhanam was performed for about 250 people. Everyone who attended were served and treated to a sumptuous dinner.

Another highlight of the navarathri celebrations this year like several years before was Vastra Dhanam. To needy Sumangali (married) ladies from the slums were given saris and kanya pondugal (young girls) were given dresses. Since several devotees had chosen to contribute to the Vastra Dhanam this year, a large number of persons had the opportunity to receive these gifts.

Navarathri celebrations are a special time at the Janaky Matha Ashram and one has to be part of it to completely experience the divine aura.  It would be a very soul satisfying experience if devotees can take some time out from their busy lives and spend a few days of Navarathri at the ashram.

Navarathri Celebrations

Navarathri celebrations glorifying the divine Mother is the highlight of Janaky Matha Ashram functions. They were performed in a grand scale at the ashram this year between September 30, 2008 and October 09, 2008. Large number of devotees attended all through the ten days and received Mathajis blessings.

Daily for each of the Navarathri days the pooja began with Sankalpam, Gadasthapanam, special Abhishekam followed by Laksharchanai. The Vedapatasala Vidyarthis chanted Vedas everyday that added a wonderful resonance over the whole atmosphere.

At noon prasadam was distributed to devotees and poor people. Every night Annadhanam was performed for about 100 people. Everyone who attended were served and treated to a sumptuous dinner.

Another highlight of the! navarathri celebrations this year like several years before was Vastra Dhanam.
