CANCER SCREENING CAMP AND CME PROGRAMME

 

 GURUDEVI SRI JANAKY MATHA ASHRAM CHARITABLE TRUST, THANJAVUR 

 

CONDUCTED ON 23rd FEBRUARY 2008



Cancer Screening Camp & Continued Medical Education Programme (CME) was organized at the Ashram on February 23rd, 2008 at Thanjavur. The doctors of Madras Cancer Care Foundation along with 10 members of Medical and Para medical staff conducted the screening procedure.

The team of volunteers was lead by Dr.Ganapathy Ramanan MD, DM (Oncology). The other doctors in attendance were:

Dr. S. Ayyappan, M.S, MCh. Staff Sister Ms. Saritha
Dr. Mani Chandrasekar, M.S, FRCS, MCh Staff Sister Ms. Sathyabala.

Dr Anitha M.B.B.S

We would like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to all the doctors, nurses and medical staff for volunteering their time, sharing their knowledge and making the camp a successful event at the Ashram.

The Programme started at 8:30 AM with a welcome address by Ashram President Dr.G.Swaminathan and was inaugurated by Dr.V.Srinivasan, MD, a Medical Oncologist. Camp continued till 5:00 PM. 51 people turned up to take advantage of the free Screening and examination. Papís smear was taken for all women and the slides sent for pathological examination.

Five final year Nursing students were deputed by Mannai Narayanaswami School of Nursing to assist in the screening. We thank the Principle of the School for this gesture and are grateful to the students for their support.

The second part of the event was the Continued Medical Education (CME) Programme that started at 6:00 PM. All the doctors made audio-visual presentation with the help of slide projectors highlighting various aspects of cancer awareness, care and treatment. It was well attended and appreciated by large number of invitees and the public. The presentations came to a close at 8:30 PM followed by a buffet dinner.
